Construction on the church took three months and was completed on July 31, 1892.
Orthodox churches are traditionally stone or brick, but the Hokuroku Church utilizes the bountiful local cedar to create a unique byzantine style dome. 18 different icons adorn the church created by the first female Japanese icon painter Yamashita Rin.
